  • Graceful pop-folk evasion

Like the Gainsbourg of old or Sébastien Tellier today, Barbagallo is an explorer of the margins of French chanson. Exiled in Australia, where he plays drums and cymbals in the crazy psyche band, Tame Impala, Barbagallo has found himself an intermediate territory, both welcoming and strange, a weird old country of agitated landscapes. His album Grand Chien is both slick and serious: truly great pop-chanson, oscillating between the rocky surface and the mesosphere, literary but never heavy, eccentric but never complicated, intimate but never exclusive. Spearhead of a progressive French pop intent on making itself heard.
