- Contraband indie cumbia
For amateurs of deserts and sombre stories, an hour’s drive from Mexico in Tucson, Arizona, is where it all happens. Sergio Mendoza, member of the group Calexico and leader of Orkesta Mendoza, his cowboy boots full of sand, has demonstrated that the border between Mexico and the United States is not just a matter of drug trafficking, sex industry and the odour of Mezcal. The government of the United States may not like it, but multiple and rich exchanges are the result of a border without a wall. One of the best examples is this sublime cumbia mixed with ranchera and indie mambo, with its sombre touches of psyche, electro and surf rock. Could this be the sound track to Donald Trump’s nightmares?
