  • Bewitching pizzica

Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino is one of the largest and oldest traditional music groups in Puglia dedicated to pizzica, the tarantella salentina. A traditional dance from southern Italy, the tarantella was, according to local beliefs, a powerful remedy against tarantula bites. The Canzoniere perpetuate this ancient ritual with passion and fervor. The vocal harmonies, accordion, violin, bouzouki and bagpipes and dance steps set to the obsessional rhythms of tamburello provoke a state of trance and typify the world of popular music from southern Italy.
