Aurelio

Honduras
Village du Monde

After being discovered by Youssou N’Dour, Aurelio has become one of the best known performers of the music of the Garifunas – a black Caribbean people who escaped from slavery. He is also the first black member of the Honduran parliament and intends to defend the rights of these "Black Caribs". He first learned to sing in the small isolated village of Plaplaya with the help of his mother, taking in a vast repertoire of songs with percussion backing. He later joined the Garifuna Collective with Andy Palacio before starting to play and sing this blues music which combines traditional drumming and smooth guitars, with his own group "Paranda".
