Barcella
Barcella, this youthful 26 year-old singer-songwriter seems to have stepped straight out of the thirties. He is above all an accomplished live performer, appreciated on many occasions for his ability to win over audiences made up of different generations. Recent winner of the French Slam Poetry championships (2007), Barcella is part and parcel of the music scene in France today, even though his music and the subject of his songs seem to be completely out of date. His treatment of contemporary issues contrasts with his old-fashioned language, his morning suit with his three-day stubble. It doesn’t exactly look like a marketing plan! It’s just the way he is. At ease in his own era, he does admit a slight twinge of nostalgia for sepia photographs, barley sugar and all the things that his granny used to like. (Tuesday to Sunday)
