There is always a before and an after BCUC, so exciting are the live shows of this collective from Soweto. Their indigenous sounds are celebrated in a festival of styles, from soul to funk and punk, influenced by both Fela Kuti and James Brown. From ritual chanting to church songs, everything is metamorphosed by their rebellious energy. From the traditional rhythms of Nguna and Tsonga, arise exhilarating soul vocals and vibrant rap, intensified by a resolutely rock'n'roll attitude. This balance of tradition and modernity produces timeless music that speaks of Africa, both past and future.
