The Paléo Festival Nyon will shine this summer, from July 21 to July 26, thanks to its very own solar farm! Located immediately next to the Festival, this installation will generate over 100,000 kWh per year from 261 photovoltaic panels, representing half of the electricity needs of an edition. A major step forward in Paléo’s sustainability policy, and a first for a festival in Switzerland.
261 Photovoltaic Panels to Light Up Paléo
Comprising 261 photovoltaic panels over a 470 m² area, Paléo’s solar farm will generate more than 100,000 kWh per year right next to the festival site. This local production accounts for 50% of the Festival’s electricity consumption, with the remainder supplied by a 100% green energy mix since 2006. To put this in perspective, it is eight times the energy required by the Main Stage (Grande Scène) for one edition, more than ten round-the-world trip by electric car, or the daily consumption of a town of 8,500 inhabitants.
A Long-Term Collaborative Project
The result of extensive work in collaboration with the Swiss company OptimalGo, this project took several years of development and a good dose of imagination! Started in 2023 and completed in 2025, it is fully operational since January 2026. It is designed as a local energy circuit, enabling the Festival to produce, consume, and, in the event of surplus, supply renewable electricity to the neighbourhood (residents, farmers, SMEs).
A Bright Future for Paléo’s Sustainability Policy
A pioneer in many areas, Paléo continues its cross-cutting approach to sustainability, aiming to reduce its environmental impact and ultimately become energy self-sufficient. Following the rollout of reusable tableware (2024), the opening of a permanent cup laundry in the region (2025), and the “A Greener Festival” certification (2025), the Paléo solar farm strengthens the Festival’s commitment to a sustainable and self-sufficient event. A new carbon assessment will be carried out after the 50th edition in 2027.
