HUIPPU brings together six musicians who set out to leave nothing of Finnish folk music untouched, the better to reinvent it. Their debut album, Haikankärki, says it all : music rooted in landscape, yet resolutely forward-looking. Fiddles, accordion, double bass, percussion and traditional Nordic instruments weave together a sound of rare alchemy, driven by a collective energy that the Scandinavian press has likened to freewheeling downhill.
