Nusantara Beat live up to their name: a whole archipelago distilled into one sound. Based in Amsterdam yet deeply rooted in Indonesian heritage, the six-piece rework 20th-century traditional songs through surf guitars, analogue synths and a contemporary psych energy. Layering sampled gamelan, tropical grooves and Balinese or Javanese melodies, their music unfolds like a voyage from island to island, suspended between memory and modernity. Live, hips sway, feet move fast and the archipelago morphs into a dancefloor.
