An icon of the alternative Istanbul music scene, Gaye Su Akyol turns each of her albums into a real manifesto for freedom. In the spirit of purest punk protest, she appropriated the Anatolian psychedelic rock scene of the ‘60s and ‘70s. Traditional Turkish folk anthems are distorted until they produce a psychedelic delirium perfumed with futuristic scents, reinforced by a rich instrumental line-up of raki, oud and baglama. Under the combined influence of Nirvana and her compatriot Selda Bargcan, Gaye Su Akyol crosses musical cultures in a colour scheme worthy of the great masters, with tones of silvery post-punk and golden cosmic psyche.
