Aquaverde was founded in Geneva in 2022. The non-profit organisation supports the indigenous peoples of Amazonia in protecting the Amazon rainforest and preserving its biodiversity for future generations, while offering economic and cultural alternatives to deforestation.
Aquaverde contributes financially to the reforestation and eco-responsibility programmes of indigenous peoples through tree sponsorships financed by companies, institutions and individuals. These reforestation projects, planned and carried out by the indigenous peoples themselves, ensure the survival of their culture and the preservation of their natural heritage.
Aquaverde supports the reforestation campaigns of the Surui Indians in Rondônia and the Ashaninka in Acre. These tribes are keenly aware of the links between the survival of their natural environment, their culture and their existence as a people.
Each tree is planted according to their rituals and traditions. Women play a decisive role in choosing the plant varieties according to their usefulness to the community: production of seeds for nurseries and handicrafts, fruit, and the curative properties of the bark, leaves and roots.
A treasure trove of biodiversity, the Amazon rainforest is a key factor in the regulation of the planet’s climate, converting a large proportion of carbon dioxide into oxygen. Together, the Amazon and its hundreds of tributaries and springs account for a quarter of the planet’s freshwater reserves, playing a crucial role in the global water cycle and CO2 capture.
By organising tree sponsorship, Aquaverde is helping to save the world’s largest forest and, through awareness-raising campaigns, is encouraging companies, institutions and individuals to behave in an environmentally friendly way and to see themselves as links in a chain that connects them to nature.
Adopting trees helps feed the lives of those who, at the ends of the earth, struggle on a daily basis. It brings dignity and hope for humanity, emphasising the importance of sharing, responsibility, fairness and mutual respect.
Every act of sponsorship is a legacy for future generations.
