It’s been a festival marked by rare intensity and plenty of rain, following three dry editions. While the unpredictable weather kept everyone guessing, it eventually delivered four days of fair skies before a few showers at the weekend. Undeterred, festivalgoers turned out in force, celebrating unforgettable evenings that will long be remembered. A different kind of experience this year, joyful and vibrant, lit up by smiles and a sea of colourful wellies from a devoted crowd. A rainy Paléo? A true classic!
The 2025 line-up brought together a vibrant mix of artistic talent and an electrifying, cross-generational audience at the heart of Plaine de l’Asse. On the main stages, the queens of pop reigned supreme with Zaho de Sagazan, who transformed the storm into a symphony of lightning, the effortlessly chic French pop of Clara Luciani, and powerful vocalist Santa delivering a breathtaking show. Saturday night channelled the spirit of rock with two Paléo firsts: stoner icons Queens of the Stone Age, who closed the night with a thunderous set, and the legendary Sex Pistols, joined by Frank Carter, unleashing the punk spirit that lies within us all. The festival also served up moments as nostalgic as they were classy with two timeless icons, Texas and Simple Minds, transcending generations with their performances. Jean-Louis Aubert, visibly moved, marked 40 years since his appearance with Téléphone back in 1985.
Hip-hop and rap left a lasting impression on the younger crowd, with the razor-sharp production of Ninho & Niska and a standout performance from SDM, who surprised fans with an electric guitar solo. Rap also proved its universal appeal, thanks to crowd-thrilling sets from Macklemore, Will Smith and Soprano. Paléo has firmly established itself as a major player in the world of urban music.
Electronic music brought people together in droves, with Justice delivering a spectacular experience, Lost Frequencies lighting up the stage with a flamboyant set, and the gabber duo ascendant vierge crafting a perfectly apocalyptic narrative during the downpour. Over at Belleville, a bold and upbeat atmosphere reigned, driven by a female-forward line-up and rising attendance, with acts like Anetha, Nooriyah, Six Sex and Audrey Danza. In the Village du Monde, North African influences shone brightly with Tunisian artist Emel, Swiss/Algerian Flèche Love and Moroccan rap star ElGrandeToto all captivating the crowd. True to its reputation for spotting tomorrow’s talent, the Club Tent delivered once again with standout sets from Uche Yara, Judeline, Youssef Swatt’s and the ever-eclectic Moonchild Sanelly.
With remarkable creativity and diversity, this year’s Swiss line-up, around twenty acts strong, proved that homegrown talent can stand tall on the international stage. Unforgettable highlights include the introspective rap of Chien Bleu, the roaring energy of Crème Solaire and the explosive presence of Moictani. All eyes now turn to Swiss sensation Nemo, headlining the closing night this Sunday.
